Passing of Willie Mimnagh
Cavan County Board GAA offers deepest sympathies to Néill, Deirdre, Bríd, Eilís, Liam Óg and the extended Mimnagh families on Willie’s passing. Willie is remembered as a very competent and able administrator in Cavan GAA circles. He served initially as Killygarry club delegate to Cavan Schools’ Board in the 1980s and in 1985 he was elected secretary of the Board. After ten years in that position he moved to the demanding role of county chairperson, a role he filled for the next eight years stepping down at the end of 2001. He was passionate about underage football and its importance in the overall development of players and clubs. He did much to promote and foster the game in Cavan at underage level. He is remembered for his courtesy to club delegates and officials and his readiness to help them with their queries. He did it all with good humour and with his own sense of quick wit. He was fair in his decision making and he made many friends and no enemies in his different roles and he is fondly recalled as an interesting conversationalist and a true gentleman.
