Cavan GAA in association with Cavan County Council are embarking on a ‘Building Greater Community – Integration & Cohesion Programme’ and a very productive and interesting meeting took place on Tuesday evening in Kingspan Breffni.
While the title is somewhat of a mouthful, the aim is to invite and welcome people from various nationalities, cultures and backgrounds living in our areas to get involved in our communities. In turn we will learn more about their cultures and traditions. From a GAA point of view, the aim is to invite both children and parents from different nationalities into our clubs. The project will look at ideas and organise events to help with this programme. Many clubs indeed are doing great work in this area already.
Tom O’Reilly and GDM Dermot McCabe will oversee the programme. A number of meetings and events will be organised in the coming months. Anyone interested in getting involved especially people from differing cultures and backgrounds are very welcome to contact Tom O’Reilly on 087 648 5290.
We thank the facilitators of our meeting Louise O’Mara and Stevie Johnston. Our photo includes people from different nationalities and religions who are involved and working in our clubs along with our facilitators and members of our committee.
