It’s almost Halloween but Cavan Academy Squads are still in action.
41 players from the Under 14 squad (pictured) played in the Ulster Blitz on Saturday morning last in Cloghan, Co. Monaghan against Monaghan, South Down and Fermanagh with each county having two teams taking part. Both teams had three games each with all players playing at least a match and a half in what was a very worthwhile day.
The Under 14s are back out this Saturday in the Army Barracks in Cavan town from 10am to 12noon where they will be shown the next phase of their Athletic Development Programme and their Winter Training Schedule will also be outlined.
The Under 15s are also out this Saturday in the Barracks in Cavan from 12.30pm to 2pm where they will be shown their Athletic Development Programme and Winter Training Schedule as well.
Both Squads will also be shown how to use a new Player Monitoring System which will help players and management monitor player workload and injuries.
During the mid-term break, Under 13 Development Squad trials will take place from Tuesday 1st November to Friday 4th. Players will be invited in for two sessions and assessed primarily on skills so it will not interfere with any U13 Club matches during that week. Clubs have been notified of the names of players and their time slot for next week. This Under 13 Development Squad will continue to work into the new year and will be used to select players for the 2017 Cavan Under 14 Academy Squad.
Meanwhile, the U17 Academy Squad have qualified for the final of the Damien Reid Cup. The Cavan lads have defeated Louth and Westmeath on route to the final of this Louth Coaching and Games organised competition. The final takes place this Saturday 29th Oct 2pm in Louth Centre of Excellence, Darver, Co. Louth.
