Ulster Poc Fada

Last Wednesday 14th June, saw the Ulster Poc Fada Final take place on Cuilcagh Mountain, sitting on the Cavan/Fermanagh border at Blacklion, the home of Shannon Gaels GAA club.

The splendid course, which had over 100 people on it, set not far from Marble Arch Caves saw 26 Competitors aiming for glory.

The Senior Men’s competition was completed over a 4km course, with Antrim’s Donal McKernan winning on a score of 36 Pocs and 18metres.  Both Donal and Runner Up Ruairi Convery (38 Pocs 69m) will go forward to National Finals on Saturday 5th August.

The Mens Under 16 Winner was Ciaran Watson from Down who completed their shorter course of 1.8km in 14 Pocs 98metres, will also go forward to the Nationals Finals.

Both Ladies Competitions were completed over the same 1.6km course and like their male counterparts these were also very close events.
Orlagh O’Hara from Cushendall Antrim won the Senior Ladies with 11 Pocs and 67metres.  While Roisin McCormick from Loughgiel, Antrim won the U16 Ladies just 7m behind the senior winner (11 Pocs 60m). Both will go forward to represent Ulster on Saturday 5th August

All competitors, spectators and officials were welcomed back to the Gowlan Community Centre and treated to a great spread by Cuilcagh Catering.
